About the Project

America was founded on the belief that government should be of and by the people. We created a Constitution to place that belief into law. That constitution has protected our freedom and liberty for two centuries by providing us with a representative government, a Congress—one accountable to its citizens. Until now.

Today, Congress is out of control. Our country is nearly bankrupt, our physical security threatened and our economy changing from free market prosperity into European socialism as the Majority rulers brazenly ignore the will of the people.

This anti-democratic attitude is unprecedented in American politics. But there is a mechanism within our political traditions to deal with a runaway Congress: the Right of Recall.

Our Constitution contains several provisions to protect our right to a representative government, by and of the people:

  • Article V provides a mechanism for amendment;

  • The First Amendment states that Congress shall make no law respecting the right of the people to petition the Government for a redress of grievances;

  • The 10th Amendment states that powers not delegated to the federal government or prohibited by it to the states are reserved to the states or to the people; and

  • The 17th Amendment holds that the electors (voters) in each state shall have the qualifications requisite for electors of the most numerous branch of the state legislature.

Based on these U.S. constitutional mandates, the people in any state may well have the right to recall a U.S. Senator or Representative.

Through RecallCongressNow.org, The American Civil Rights Union seeks to empower Americans who are dissatisfied with congressional actions being undertaken on their behalf.

This site is not intended to promote political action with regard to any particular elected Member of Congress, but to inform Americans about the laws and procedures that exist to protect them.

Please undertake any actions respectfully and within the legislative guidelines of your state. It is extremely important to follow all procedures and to consult others who have initiated similar processes in order to prevent missteps that could jeopardize the effort.
